Isn’t it amazing how many people want to go to Heaven but they have no interest in serving God?
If you’ve made Christ your Lord and Savior, I hope you’re serving God in some way. Whether you are doing something small or great, God will not forget your labor of love. He has a reward for you in Heaven!
Finally there is a third reason why God has set you apart for Himself – He wants you to WORSHIP Him! Only worship out of a holy life is pleasing to God. God is holy, and those who worship Him must worship Him in holiness and truth.
There is a beautiful verse in Psalms that shows you the value of worshiping God out of a holy life. The psalmist wrote:
“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; WORSHIP THE LORD IN THE BEAUTY OF HOLINESS.” (Psalm 29:2 NKJV, emphasis mine)
When you worship God in holiness, you are arrayed in His beauty, and your worship is beautiful to Him. This is why it is so important to recognize that you are holy, and that you keep yourself pure, clean and glistening white through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. You do that by keeping yourself free from sin, and being quick to confess any trespass that you are aware of doing. This is how you can worship God in the beauty of holiness!
Now you need to also worship God in truth. It is so easy to sing words of worship and praise, and have your mind somewhere else. It is so easy to go through the motions of worship and praise, and not have your heart engaged in what you are saying. This is especially true when it comes to singing songs that you are reading from a screen at the front of your Church. Remember, God not only listens to the words of your mouth, but He also listens to what is coming from your heart. You can see this in the words of Jesus, when He said:
“These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” (Matthew 15:8 NKJV)
Then He said in the following verse, “And in vain they worship Me”. In other words, their worship was empty, because it wasn’t coming from the heart. Can you see how important it is to God that you worship and adore Him from your heart? This is what it means to worship Him in truth!
Why is it so important to worship God? First, you worship Him because He is worthy of your worship and praise and adoration. He is the One who created you. He is also the One
who gave you eternal life. Apart from Him you would not exist, and apart from Him you would be eternally lost. By worshipping Him, you are acknowledging what He has done for you, and you are expressing your deep love for Him. Yes, God delights in your worship, when you pour out your love for Him!
Your are holy!
In my next post we will look at what it means to sanctify yourself.
