When you were saved, the Holy Spirit set you apart from the world and placed you in Christ. Now God calls you a saint. However, in order to live like a saint, you must first develop the mind of a saint, for the mind is the key to living a holy life. Living a life of holiness first starts in the mind!
Jesus made a startling revelation of how sin develops in a person’s life. He told the people that it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out of his mouth. Notice what He said to His disciples in the following passage:
“For out of the heart proceed EVIL THOUGHTS, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed handsdoes not defile a man.” (Matthew 15:17-19 NKJV emphasis mine)
Now the heart is the innermost being of a man, comprised of the spirit and soul, including the mind. In case you are not aware of it already, you are a spirit being, your spirit has a soul, and you live in a dwelling, called the human body.
In this passage, notice that Jesus said that sin develops first from evil thoughts. These evil thought become expressed in evil words, which then become evil deeds. And He lists those deeds as: murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, and blasphemies. This is why it is so important to be careful what you allow into the realm of your imagination. You need to have a sanctified imagination – you need to develop the mind of a saint!
The Apostle Paul expressed this when he wrote:
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2 NKJV)
Now let me ask you a question: How does a believer become conformed to this world? It is through his mind! What he allows into the realm of his imagination soon becomes expressed by his words, and then, before he realizes it, he is acting just like the world – indulging in the sins of the world! Before long, you cannot distinguish that believer from the rest of the world. How sad it is to see that happen!
Now you can see why the Apostle Paul urged the believers in Rome to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. Living a sanctified life starts in your mind – you need to develop a sanctified imagination! By developing a sanctified imagination, you will become transformed into that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God for your life.
Now let me ask you another question: How do you renew your mind? It is through meditating on the Word of God! This causes you to develop a deep relationship with God, based on His Word. Then you need to speak out those words that line up with the God’s Word, and, before you know it, you will find yourself being a doer of the Word. This is how you develop the mind of a saint, and live a life that is pleasing to God.
As the Apostle James wrote:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22 NKJV)
In fact, you will find that the more mature you become in holiness the closer you will walk in line with God’s Word.
You are holy!
In my next post we will look at: “You Are a Holy Temple.”
