When you were saved the Holy Spirit set you apart from the world and placed you in Christ. However, He did more than that. He came to dwell within you, and you became a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. As a result, you became a holy temple for God to dwell in through the Holy Spirit.
Look at the words of the Apostle Paul, when he wrote:
“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. FOR THE TEMPLE OF GOD IS HOLY, which temple you are.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 NKJV emphasis mine)
This means that you are also holy by virtue of the fact that the Holy Spirit dwells within you. This is what also distinguishes you from the rest of the world, because you are now the habitation of God Himself within you.
Isn’t it amazing to think that the God of unlimited power and glory has chosen to dwell within a limited vessel, like you, to reach out to a lost and dying world around you? This is the humility of God! Yes, God has a humble heart, and He humbles Himself to dwell within you. If you are always conscious of His indwelling presence within you, you will want to live a holy life, and always glorify God in your body, because it belongs to God.
In my last post, we looked at the fact that, although we are saved, we need to do something about our minds. We need to develop the mind of a saint, and keep a sanctified imagination. In the same way, we need to do something about our bodies. We must present our bodies as a holy vessel to the Lord.
The Apostle Paul wrote:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, HOLY, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1 NKJV emphasis mine)
Yes, your body is holy! It is the dwelling place of God through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we have a responsibility to constantly offer it up to God as a living sacrifice, which, Paul wrote, is your reasonable service.
The word “service,” in this verse, means “a service of worship”. By offering up your body to God, you are performing a service of worship to Him. As I wrote in an earlier post, God has set you apart for Himself to worship Him. As a holy dwelling place of God, you are now a temple of worship, therefore you must always seek to glorify God in your body. This is your service of worship to Him, a sweet fragrance before His throne.
You are holy!
In my next post we will look at humility, for you cannot live a holy life without having a humble heart.
