If you are a man, you may not relate well to this subject, but, if you are a woman, you will no doubt have less trouble relating to what I am about to share with you. As a believer, you are a member of the Church, and the Church is going to be the Bride of Christ. Yes, men you will be part of that Bride, and the Bride of Christ is holy.
The Apostle Paul expressed something very interesting to the believers in Corinth, when he wrote:
“For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. For I betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:2 NKJV)
Paul did not elaborate any further in this letter, but, later, he did go into greater detail about the mysterious relationship between Christ and the Church, and how it compared to the union of a husband and his wife.
Regarding this union, between a husband and his wife, Jesus said,
“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” (Mark 10:7-8 NKJV)
However, when we come to Christ, there is also a union that takes place between us and Christ. Paul put it this way:
“But he who is JOINED TO THE LORD is ONE SPIRIT with Him.” (1 Corinthians 6:17 NKJV )
Yes, when you were joined to Christ you became “one spirit” with Him. This may surprise to read this: He is in you here on earth, but you are in Him in Heaven. Isn’t that amazing? That is why God considers you a citizen of Heaven – you are already there in Christ!
Now I am sure you have heard that, as the Church, you are called “the Body of Christ,” and that Christ is called the “Head of the Body.” To most people, the image that this creates in their mind is that the Church is some huge headless body, and that Christ is the Head that sits on top of that body. This may surprise you, but this is NOT the image that Paul was trying to convey. What Paul did say was that Christ is the Head of the Body, as a husband is the head of his wife – we are the Body of Christ, as a wife is to her husband!
“For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.” Ephesians 5:23 NKJV
Paul went on to describe the great love Christ had for the Church. He wrote:
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify her (make her holy) and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV )
Now you may have heard from the pulpit, on many occasions, that Christ is coming back for a Church without spot or wrinkle, and we all wondered how that was ever going to happen. However, this is not what the Apostle Paul wrote. He said that Christ was one day going to present the Church to Himself, as a bride is presented to a groom, and she shall be holy, without spot or wrinkle, or any blemish. That day will take place one day in Heaven!
The Apostle John described this event in the Book of Revelation. He wrote:
“‘Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage supper of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.’ And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Revelation 19:7-8 NKJV)
Who is the bride in this passage? The saints, the holy ones of God. Making yourself ready for this great event is an act of righteousness. You make yourself ready by shaking off all that is unclean, so that you might stand before the Lord Jesus Christ, arrayed in spotless linen, clean and glistening white. This is how you look now, after you have been washed in the blood of the Lamb!
The Apostle John opened this book by writing:
“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood . .” (See Revelation 1:5 NKJV)
This is the love Christ had for His own bride. Through His blood we have been made glistening white, pure and clean, without spot or blemish in His sight – we are a holy Bride! One day, we will also be in our glorified bodies, and we will be presented to Christ, as a glorious bride fit for the King of kings and Lord of lords. What a glorious day that will be!
The Apostle John gave us a final view of the Bride of Christ, when he wrote:
“Then I, John, saw the HOLY CITY, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, PREPARED AS A BRIDE FOR HER HUSBAND.” (Revelation 21:3 NKJV)
Yes, you are a member of the Church, the future Bride of Christ. You have been washed, you have been sanctified and you have been justified and made righteous in His sight, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of God, for you are holy!
You are holy, dear saint!
