No doubt, in your life as a believer, you have seen God answer your prayers on many occasions. In fact, you may have seen some very remarkable answers to prayer. Now let me ask you a question, dear saint: Do you believe that you could ask God for one soul in this upcoming year, and see God answer that prayer? I want to challenge you to do that very thing – ask for and believe that God will give you one soul this year!
King Solomon made an interesting statement, when he wrote:
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, AND HE WHO WINS SOULS IS WISE.” Proverbs 11:30 NKJV (emphasis mine).
What the Holy Spirit taught me from this verse is that, not only is it wise to win souls, but it takes wisdom to win souls. In fact, God will give you all the wisdom you need to win a soul for Christ. Let me share with you some of the wisdom that the Lord has taught me.
First of all, please understand that there are two parts to every miracle: there is your part and then there is God’s part. When it comes to winning someone to Christ, your part is only to share the message of the Gospel with that person, the rest is up to God. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts the person of their sins and reveals to them their need to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. When you try to lead someone to Christ, let the Holy Spirit do His part. Don’t try to do His part for Him. He doesn’t need your help!
Second, ask God to give you a soul. The Word of God is full of promises to stand on. One of my favorites is:
“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:14 NKJV.
Now that is simple enough: just ask God to give you a soul, and then immediately thank Him for it, as if He has answered your prayer already. Next ask Him to lead you to that soul, and bring that person across your path. Again, immediately thank God for doing it. Finally, keep your eye open and watch for that person. God is going to bring that person across your path in the days ahead, and you are going to have an opportunity to share Christ with him or her. Are you ready?
Let me encourage you to prepare yourself for that moment where you will have the opportunity to lead someone to the Lord. You should have several Scriptures ready to show a person that they are a sinner, they need a Savior, and that by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for their sins, they can have eternal life.
Remember, your job is to only present the message of the Gospel, it is the Holy Spirit’s job to open their hearts to receive the Gospel and to come into the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. As you share the Gospel with them, you need to be sensitive, and watch for what the Holy Spirit is doing in their heart. You do this by listening to what they are saying,
Once you have the joy of seeing someone come to Christ, your responsibility does not end there. Jesus gave this very important commandment, when He said:
“Go therefore AND MAKE DISCIPLES of all the nations.” Matthew 28:19 NKJV (emphasis mine).
Notice that He didn’t say, “Make converts of all nations.” No, He told His followers to make disciples. This means that you have the responsibility to not only to win someone to Christ, but to train them to go out and do exactly what you just did with them. In other words: let EACH ONE WIN ONE, and then train that one to win one, and so on.
Think about this for a moment: If every believer won someone to Christ in this upcoming year, and then discipled that person to go out and win someone else to Christ, your Church would more than double in one year. This is how the early Church grew so fast, and they didn’t even have television, radio or the printed page. This is how God wants His Church to win the lost now!
Now Jesus made a very interesting statement, when He said:
“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” Luke 6:40 NKJV.
Please understand this: A leader will always seek to duplicate himself in someone else. This is true leadership! In fact, you can be a leader of one, if you will take the time to win someone to Christ, then take them under your wing, mentor them, and train them you be just like you. Yes, train them to win someone else to Christ, and do exactly what you just did with them. That is what Jesus did with His disciples, and that is what He trained them to go out and do. You can do the same thing, dear saint. In fact, this is what the life of a saint should look like – a disciple maker, just like Jesus.
You are holy, dear saint!
