Men may not be able to relate to this as well as the women, but you are beautiful in the eyes of the Lord. In fact, you are the Bride of Christ, and the bride of Christ is beautiful in His sight.
Women often go to great lengths to make themselves beautiful, and men appreciate every effort they make, especially when they are in love with the woman they admire. This is especially true on the day of their wedding. The bride will try to make herself as beautiful as possible, and the most elegant feature of all will be her wedding dress – pure and glistening white! On the wedding day, all of the eyes of the guests will be focused on her beauty, especially the eyes of the groom.
As God’s saints what makes us beautiful in the sight of Christ? The Psalmist told us, when he wrote:
“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” Psalm 29:2 NKJV.
The beauty of the Bride of Christ is in her holiness. The word holy means to be set apart. We have been set apart from the world just for Him. We are also clothed in garments of salvation and beautiful robes of righteousness. The prophet Isaiah wrote:
“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with robes of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and a bride adorns herself with jewels” Isaiah 61:10 NKJV.
When we are presented to Christ as His Bride, we will both be arrayed in the beauty and splendor of God. We will be arrayed in the beauty and splendor of holiness and righteousness. What a wonderful sight that will be one day – yet that is how He sees us now!
As I was meditating on the fruit of the Spirit, I saw how the fruit also adorn us with the beauty of God. They are the attributes of His very nature. The Apostle Paul listed these fruit, when he wrote:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law” Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV.
Every saint is adorned with these fruit. They add to the beauty of a believer who is in Christ. The Holy Spirit showed me years ago how all of God’s attributes work in complete harmony with each other. They blend together and compliment each other, as beautiful colors in a glistening robe. We cannot see these fruit as beautiful ornaments on a Bride, but Christ can see them, just as clearly as we can see the wedding gown of a bride here on earth.
Now you may ask about the gifts of the Spirit. Are they also like jewels that adorn the gown of the Bride? The gifts of the Spirit are tools of ministry we are to use to serve one another. You can imagine what a tool belt would look like around the waist of a bride on her wedding day! No, it is the fruit that gives the Bride her beauty. That is why all the gifts must be ministered in love. The gifts are only tools. They add no beauty to the Bride.
As the Bride of Christ, He wants us to let these fruit shine and glisten with beauty through our lives here on earth, in whatever we do and wherever we go. As the saints of God He wants us to always be arrayed in the splendor of His holiness and righteousness. That is our wedding gown. The fruit of the Spirit are as sparkling jewels on this gown.
You are beautiful, dear saint!
