Did you know that Jesus has a reward for you in Heaven?
Jesus spoke these words in the very last chapter of the Bible:
“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12 NKJV)
Jesus is eagerly waiting to reward us for what we have done for Him, and He wants us to be just as eager to receive it.
It isn’t always easy to serve the Lord. Many of God’s people have been persecuted and maligned for the work that they have done for Christ. For these people, Jesus had these comforting words:
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12 NKJV, emphasis added.)
There are days when we may not feel like serving the Lord. We may be tired, discouraged or drained. Some of us may have difficult situations with our families. In every problem we face, God wants us to serve Him with gladness and cheerfulness of heart, because we are doing it for Him. When we have this attitude, we are pleasing to Him. God gets no pleasure from those who grumble and complain while serving Him. He wants us to rejoice and be exceedingly glad, because He has a great reward for us.
Jesus wants us to also learn to do everything out of love. It is our love for others that pleases Him the most, especially when we love our enemies. He said:
“But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.” (Luke 6:35 NKJV, emphasis added.)
As sons and daughters of God, Jesus expects us to be just like our heavenly Father. He is kind to saint and sinner alike. He expects us to do the same. He wants us to do good, even to those who may not be thankful for it. We should not try to do the right thing just to please others, we should do it to please our heavenly Father. When we are kind to others, even though they may be unkind to us, God will reward us for it.
Did you know that God will reward us for every little thing we do for Him? Nothing we do for Him will go unnoticed. Jesus said:
“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Mark 9:41 NKJV )
God is especially pleased with what we do for others, because they belong to Christ. He sees every act of love and kindness we do. Jesus said that God will reward us even for giving a glass of cold water to someone who is thirsty, when we do it to honor Him. Nothing will be forgotten!
The writer of Hebrews wrote:
“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name in that you have ministered to the saints, and do (continue to) minister.” (Hebrews 6:10 NKJV, emphasis added. Words in parentheses mine.)
We may forget some of the little acts of love and kindness we have done for others, but God will not forget. When we stand before Him one day, we will be amazed at some of the things that He will reward us for.
When it comes to their reward God in Heaven, many people think of their mansion in glory. Jesus said:
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2 NKJV)
Our mansion in glory is part of our reward in Heaven. We will be surprised at all of the things we find in each room. Each feature we see will be a reflection of what we have done for God here on earth. No one can imagine what God has in store for us.
The Apostle Paul endured a lot of hardship and difficulties in his service for the Lord. Many times he encountered those who found it too difficult and wanted to give up. This was what he had to say to them:
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV)
God wants us to keep abounding in the work of the Lord, because our labor for Him will be rewarded. We do not serve God to build up treasures here on earth, but an everlasting treasure in Heaven. Our reward in Heaven is going be amazing!
You are holy, dear saint!

P.S: Please keep me in your prayers, as I will be traveling to Quebec to minister there this weekend. Next month I am booked to travel with a group to Cuba. This will be my third trip there.
