Don’t you wish there were a big reset button that you could push when things seem to be going wrong?
As we approach the new year, many of us are considering making resolutions. Some of us want to lose weight or quit smoking. Others want to stop a bad habit or change a pattern of behavior. Most of us has at least one thing we would like to change in the new year.
Maybe this year hasn’t been a good year for you. Financially things may have not gone well. Perhaps you have gained weight instead of losing it. Has an old habit resurfaced, and you have found yourself back to square one in your battle to change it?
Regardless of what we are going through, we must realize that God is the answer to all of these problems. However, we often look elsewhere for the answer. The world has all kinds of different solutions for us to try. Daily we are being bombarded by various ads offering an answer to the dilemma we are in. Some of these solutions may work for us, but we have to be sure that God is the One who is leading us to use them.
The wisdom of this world is always leading us to take a path away from God for the answer to our need. God wants us to look to Him as our only source for help!
Many people today, including believers, are looking to the future with dread and apprehension. We don’t have to be like that because God always has a plan to help us. He will pave our path with peace. The Lord spoke these words through the Prophet Jeremiah:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV)
Some of us have heard this Scripture being quoted so many times that we no longer take the time to really consider what God is saying. God wants you to know that there is hope for your future. He has a plan for your life and it is a good plan!
What we need to realize is that our future starts today. So many times we are worrying so much about what is going to happen tomorrow that we lose sight of what God is doing right now in our lives. Jesus said:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.” (Matthew 6:34 NKJV)
The first thing we need to realize is that God is with us right now in our situation. When we know that we are not alone in our struggle, it becomes a lot easier for us to face what we are going through. The future always looks bright when God is in the picture,
Each day when we wake up, the first thing that should come out of our mouth is: “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!” (see Psalm 118:24)
This is the divine reset that God has given us – the start of a new day! Instead of looking at our circumstances, He wants us to look to Him as the source of our joy and hope. This is why the Apostle Paul wrote:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 NKJV)
He doesn’t want us to rejoice according to what our situation looks like, He wants us to rejoice in Him. He is the One who is able to bring peace into our world and turn everything around for His glory and our good.
When we first got saved, we rejoiced because all of our sins were wiped away – the record of everything we had done wrong had been removed! However, since then we can see where we have sinned and failed God. What do we do about that? We need to realize that God gives us a fresh start every single day. The Apostle Paul wrote:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)
If we are in Christ today, then we are also a new creation – today! All of our old sins were wiped away when we confessed them, and we stand before God as though we had been made completely new.
Paul explained this when he wrote:
“Even though our outward man is perishing, yet our inward man is being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV)
The new creation is the person who lives inside of us. That person is renewed day by day. That is why we should see ourselves as brand new every day!
When we are in right relationship with God, then everything else will fall into line behind it. As we start each new day knowing that God loves us and accepts us just the way we are, we are ready to see Him change everything else in our lives. He will turn our finances around. He will help us lose weight. He will help us correct that issue that is weighing us down. Once we come to the understanding that God is our only source, then He will help us with everything we need in our lives. We can reset our future, by having a fresh start with God each day!
